Combustion and Flue Gas Analysis

This recognised course was developed, following industry problems highlighted in the Building and Energy publication; Energy Bulletin No 59 – July 2012 where 3 industrial (Class I) gas fitters were issued with Infringement Notices. One notice related to a carbon monoxide explosion, following the servicing of a “Type B” gas appliance.

This led me to believe there was a need for a more comprehensive industrial gas course, covering this subject, so gas fitters have a much better understanding of essential maintenance, combustion process and flue gas analysis when working with “Type B” gas appliances.

Learning Outcomes:

The learning outcomes are as follows:

  • Understand the combustion process for NG and LPG;

  • Causes of incomplete combustion;

  • Combustion analysis and correct air/gas ratio;

  • Determine plant room/enclosure ventilation requirements;

  • Explain AS 3814 (regulatory) maintenance requirements and importance for safety and combustion;

  • Combustion analysers and testing flue gases;

  • Complete CO/CO2 ratio and “excess air” calculations;

  • Calculate CO2 from O2 readings;

  • Understand theoretical air curve, stoichiometric conditions and optimum efficiency;

  • Understand the primary cause of explosions, safe air/gas ratio control, critical energy/critical time and purpose of measuring excess air;

  • Select suitable flue gas sampling points; and

  • Verify flue gas sample results and assess if any adjustments are required.

Course Duration:

Approx. 7 hrs.

Course Cost:

$825.00 per person (GST exempt - education)

A discount of 10% applies for more than 5 and 20% for more than 10 attending the same course.

This course can be combined with the Gasfitting Legislation and Safety (GLS) Course for “Supervised Gas Fitters” and Industrial Gas Appliance Maintenance (IGAM) Course. Combined duration is 2 or 3 days.

Course Location:

The course is normally conducted on site for companies, because of numbers. As well so your personnel can take flue gas samples from appliances on site.

Presenter:

Graham Stewart has over 45 years of experience in the gas industry.

He first developed these courses in 1998 to assist businesses in fulfilling their regulatory obligations. Courses are constantly updated to ensure compliance and have been well received over the years with many commendations received.
